SURGICAL PROCEDURES

Objective:
to eliminate localized fats, defining the body silhouette.

Even with frequent exercise, weight control, and healthy eating, many people still feel uncomfortable with localized fats. This is because some regions of the body are prone to accumulate fat that is not consumed by the body. During life, men tend to put on weight in the belly and women, in the hips, breeches, and also a little in the abdomen, which generates a disproportionate contour of the body due to fat excess. Therefore, Liposuction aims to remodel specific areas, removing fat deposits, whether in the armpits, arms, hips, thighs, buttocks, breeches, abdomen, calves, back, knees, neck, and even in the chin.

It is plastic surgery that reestablishes the proportion and harmony of the body. Should the surgery be performed in a hospital environment, anesthesia can be local, local with sedation, block (spinal or epidural), or general. In the areas to be aspirated, a solution is injected with anesthetics and vasoconstrictors to facilitate the removal of fat and to reduce bleeding during surgery and postoperative pain. Cannulas connected to a syringe or suction device are used, and excess fat is removed. Liposuction, or Liposculpture, is not meant for weight loss, but for reshaping and delineating the body contour, enhancing the body silhouette.
Currently, different techniques can be used such as Vibroliposuction, Ultrasonic Liposuction, or the traditional one. There are specific indications for each case. Also, technologies can be associated with intraoperative radiofrequency.

Preoperative: before the procedure, the patient answers a questionnaire about his lifestyle, his health, and expectations. At the consultation, laboratory tests are requested and based upon the results, recommendations are provided for taking or pausing the use of certain medications as well as for adjusting the doses of the routine medications being taken; also, the patient is advised to stop smoking and the consumption of alcoholic beverages days before surgery – it is also important to avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatories, anticoagulants and natural remedies. Absolute fasting of 8 hours is required on the day before the surgery (solid and liquid foods).

Postoperative: after the procedure, the doctor prescribes the needed medications to optimize the cicatrization process as well as to prevent infections. Lymphatic drainage, associated with ultrasound, radiofrequency helps in accelerating the recovery process. It is recommended, in parallel, to use the modeling belt on the spot, as it makes the body assume its new contour, also controlling edema and preventing the accumulation of liquids. For the results to remain, a healthy quality of life, with the practice of physical exercises and a good diet can help. The patient can return to work in up to two weeks and, regarding the more intense activities, in about two to four weeks.
