SURGICAL PROCEDURES

Objective:
to rejuvenate the face.

In young people, the facial contour is well defined, through a voluminous and bright malar region. However, when aging advances – and through factors such as genetics, sun exposure, poor diet, and smoking – gravity promotes the loss of facial fat and changes the face’s shape. At that moment, there is a displacement of the malar fat, causing grooves in the lower region of the eyes and nasogenian grooves (known as the Chinese mustache). Therefore, Facial Lifting, or Rhytidoplasty, is indicated for people who want to rejuvenate the face.

The procedure lasts about 2 hours and promotes the repositioning of facial volumes, also eliminating sagging skin on the face and neck, attenuating wrinkles and furrows. Through intravenous sedation or general anesthesia, it improves and treats the visible signs of aging, flaccidity, excess fat, detached muscle tone (which can cause jowls), and loose skin. After surgery, the incision lines are hidden in the scalp and the natural contours of the face and ear and are imperceptible over time. Facial Lifting does not interrupt the aging process, but reshapes the face for a more youthful appearance, bringing back to the patient’s skin the natural shine and softness.

SMAS (superficial aponeurotic muscle system) and platysma are treated to obtain a natural, effective, and long-lasting result. Through plication, SMASectomy , or detachment of the platysma, the face is deeply treated.

Preoperative: before the procedure, the patient answers a questionnaire about his lifestyle, his health, and expectations. At the consultation, laboratory tests are requested and based upon the results, recommendations are provided for taking or pausing the use of certain medications as well as for adjusting the doses of the routine medications being taken; also, the patient is advised to stop smoking and the consumption of alcoholic beverages days before surgery – it is also important to avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatories, anticoagulants and natural remedies. Absolute fasting of 8 hours is required on the day before the surgery (solid and liquid foods).

Postoperative: after the procedure, the doctor prescribes the needed medications to optimize the cicatrization process as well as to prevent infections. After the surgery, it is recommended to rest with your head elevated and apply cold compresses to reduce swelling. Returning to work takes between one to two weeks and three weeks for activities that require greater physical effort. To prolong the obtained results, the use of sunscreen and a good diet are essential.
