SURGICAL PROCEDURES

Objective:
to provide facial structure balance.

The beauty of the face is determined by the skin, tissues, and bones. However, many people are not happy with their facial structure – either because of a dropping jaw, flat cheeks, undefined jaw, or lack of contour. Therefore, Facial Implants, made from a biocompatible material, are designed to bring balance and proportion to the physical structure of the face, improving or increasing specific points. The goal is to bring the patient a more demarcated facial contour and smooth angles, developing unique characteristics for each individual and, ultimately, bringing their self-esteem back.

The surgery lasts about 1h30, using general anesthesia or local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. Then, the doctor analyzes the face to reestablish its definition and make it more harmonious. The most common places where they are performed are jaw, chin, and cheek, each one with its particularities and considering each patient’s desire. To perform the surgery, it is necessary that the patient’s head and skull have reached physical maturity – the final phase of adolescence. After the procedure, the result is permanent and visible almost immediately; the incisions are removed within two weeks, becoming imperceptible over time.

Preoperative: before the procedure, the patient answers a questionnaire about his lifestyle, his health, and expectations. At the consultation, laboratory tests are requested and based upon the results, recommendations are provided for taking or pausing the use of certain medications as well as for adjusting the doses of the routine medications being taken; also, the patient is advised to stop smoking and the consumption of alcoholic beverages days before surgery – it is also important to avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatories, anticoagulants and natural remedies. Absolute fasting of 8 hours is required on the day before the surgery (solid and liquid foods).

Postoperative: after the procedure, the doctor prescribes the needed medications to optimize the cicatrization process as well as to prevent infections. Some guidelines are, not to consume alcohol after surgery and the patient can return to common activities within a few days, after a reassessment of the results. Bruising and swelling take about a few weeks to completely disappear.
