SURGICAL PROCEDURES

Objective:
to minimize the scar, making it more uniform on the skin.

After strong impact injuries or surgeries, in which there was poor healing, visible scars can appear and that bothers many people. Therefore, the Scar Correction aims to minimize, as much as possible, the scar, brightening the region according to the skin tone and reestablishing its texture. It is important to note that it cannot be permanently erased, but it is possible to make it more uniform and provide a pleasant aesthetic to the patient.

To perform the procedure, some surgical techniques can be used, depending on each case. Topical treatments, such as gels, tapes, or external compression are used on superficial scars, closing wounds and helping with discoloration – decreasing the production of irregular pigment. Injectable Treatments are used to fill reduced scars and alter the appearance, size, and texture of the tissue. Finally, Surface Treatments improve aesthetics, through dermabrasion, laser, chemical peels, and bleaching agents.

Preoperative: before the procedure, the patient answers a questionnaire about his lifestyle, his health, and expectations. At the consultation, laboratory tests are requested and based upon the results, recommendations are provided for taking or pausing the use of certain medications as well as for adjusting the doses of the routine medications being taken; also, the patient is advised to stop smoking and the consumption of alcoholic beverages days before surgery – it is also important to avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatories, anticoagulants and natural remedies. Absolute fasting of 8 hours is required on the day before the surgery (solid and liquid foods).

Postoperative: after the procedure, the doctor prescribes the needed medications to optimize the cicatrization process as well as to prevent infections Up to two weeks, the operated region may present swelling and discomfort, causing sensitivity. The use of lasers, creams, ointments, and silicone plates is important. In cases of keloid history, beta-therapy or superficial radiotherapy may be indicated. The final results of the surgery are visible within a few months, however, it may take up to 1 year for complete healing to occur.
