SURGICAL PROCEDURES

Objective:
to remove cancerous lesions on the skin.

A positive diagnosis of Skin Cancer can be devastating. This treatment, combined with chemotherapy and radiation, results in scarring and skin disfigurement. Therefore, to make the process less painful, and caring for the psychological well-being of the patient, the plastic surgeon aims to bring self-esteem back during this difficult time.

Therefore, this surgery aims to treat and remove cancerous lesions or other injuries, with specialized techniques, respecting the patient’s appearance and health. Usually, there are scars after the procedure, however, all the steps are discussed in detail so that the final result is satisfactory, restoring, to the maximum, the natural beauty of the skin.

The most common types of skin tumors are basal cell, squamous cell (epidermoid), and melanomas. Each one with its specific characteristics and requiring a different approach. Self-examination and doctor’s evaluation are very important. The early diagnosis brings better results.

Preoperative: before the procedure, the patient answers a questionnaire about his lifestyle, his health, and expectations. At the consultation, laboratory tests are requested and based upon the results, recommendations are provided for taking or pausing the use of certain medications as well as for adjusting the doses of the routine medications being taken; also, the patient is advised to stop smoking and the consumption of alcoholic beverages days before surgery – it is also important to avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatories, anticoagulants and natural remedies. Absolute fasting of 8 hours is required on the day before the surgery (solid and liquid foods).

Postoperative: after the procedure, the doctor prescribes the needed medications to optimize the cicatrization process as well as to prevent infections.
