SURGICAL PROCEDURES

Objective:
to reduce breast volume, providing a better quality of life.

The body can undergo many changes due to aging, hormonal variation, and pregnancy. Due to skin aging, weight loss or gain, breastfeeding, accidents, and diseases, some women may develop excess breast volume, which is harmful to health and can lead to problems with self-esteem. This excess volume interferes with daily life when simple activities become more difficult. The patient chooses to perform the surgery, because of a lot of pain in the shoulder, neck, spine, and the appearance of grooves in the shoulders that are caused by the bra, due to the excess weight.

Therefore, Breast Reduction, also known as Mammoplasty Reduction, aims to reduce breast volume, correcting the shape and sagging of the breasts. The procedure, which lasts about 2 to 4 hours, depending on each case, is performed through an incision made around the areola and can encompass almost the entire lower pole, to remove excess glandular and fatty tissue from the region. In some cases of breast loss, remodeling is performed to reestablish a natural and smooth contour – if necessary, the areola is repositioned. Surgery reestablishes the patient’s self-esteem and improves her quality of life.

It is important to maintain the breastfeeding capacity of patients, through preservation and effective techniques, such as the Pitanguy technique. Very versatile, the Pitanguy technique can treat almost all cases, with effective and natural results.

Preoperative: before the procedure, the patient answers a questionnaire about his lifestyle, his health, and expectations. At the consultation, laboratory tests are requested and based upon the results, recommendations are provided for taking or pausing the use of certain medications as well as for adjusting the doses of the routine medications being taken; also, the patient is advised to stop smoking and the consumption of alcoholic beverages days before surgery – it is also important to avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatories, anticoagulants and natural remedies. Absolute fasting of 8 hours is required on the day before the surgery (solid and liquid foods).
On the day of the surgery, you need to bring a modeling bra compatible with the new volume of the breasts.

Postoperative: after the procedure, the doctor prescribes the needed medications to optimize the cicatrization process as well as to prevent infections. Afterward, it is recommended to use a surgical bra or elastic bandage to reduce swelling and support the breasts. It is important to avoid raising your arms and sleeping on your breasts during the recovery process. The return to activities is between one to two weeks.
